Renewal of Baptismal Vow

Renewal of Baptismal Vow

I, (name), a faithless sinner, renew and ratify today in thy hands the vows of my Baptism; I renounce forever Satan, his pomp’s and works; and I give myself entirely to Jesus Christ, the Incarnate Wisdom, to carry my cross after Him all the days of my life, and to be more faithful to Him than I have ever been before.

American Library Assoc. founded in 1876 SMOKE IN THIS LIFE, NOT THE NEXT Tue, Oct 6 — St. Bruno Cigar: Dark Habano  Pour: F our Roses Single Barrel Reflection: Silence is the furnace where truth is forged. Bruno enters the calendar without spectacle. No visions, no public revelations, no dramatic interventions. His holiness is carved in quiet, in the long interior labor of a man who refuses to let noise colonize his soul. The Carthusian founder teaches that God’s deepest work is done in stillness, where distractions fall away and a man finally hears what has been calling to him all along. Silence becomes the discipline that reveals the truth of his life. Tonight’s Dark Habano suits Bruno’s gravity. Its deeper leaf, its steady burn, its unhurried strength mirror the Carthusian insistence that the interior life is built slowly, honestly, without ornament. Four Roses Single Barrel, with its clean finish and disciplined profile, echoes Bruno’s simplicity: nothing excessive, no...

Fulton Sheen's Never-Before-Seen Writings on the Demonic

Image
Evil in America rarely announces itself with horns and sulfur ; it arrives the way Fulton Sheen warned it would—quietly, daily, through the erosion of interior life. The hosts in your video linger on Sheen’s insistence that the devil’s preferred battleground is not the extraordinary but the ordinary: the distracted mind, the unguarded heart, the soul that has forgotten how to pray. America’s crisis, they argue, is not fundamentally political but spiritual. It is the slow surrender of silence to noise, of identity to confusion, of reverence to spectacle. Sheen saw this decades ago, warning that the demonic thrives when a people lose the ability to sit still before God. The conversation turns to Sheen’s three signs of the demonic—immodesty, violence, and fractured identity —and places them against the American landscape like a diagnostic chart. Our culture’s fixation on exposure, its celebration of aggression, its confusion about the human person: these are not merely social trends but s...

SMOKE IN THIS LIFE, NOT THE NEXT Sun, Oct 11 — Twentieth Sunday after Pentecost   Cigar: Medium‑bodied blend   Pour: Buffalo Trace   Reflection: Ordinary duty shapes the soul. Ordinary Time carries a hidden severity. Its quiet days, stripped of feast and drama, reveal whether a man has learned the discipline of readiness. Holiness is rarely forged in crisis; it is shaped in the long obedience of unremarkable hours. And it is precisely here that many souls falter. The saints warn that one of the most common causes of prolonged Purgatory is not spectacular sin but ordinary neglect —especially the neglect of the Sacraments at the hour of death. Christ established these final graces to cleanse the remnants of sin and shorten the fire that follows. But their power requires a soul still capable of receiving them. When a man delays until his mind is dim and his will weakened, the dispositions needed for grace fade. Some delay so long that the priest arrives too late, a...
