This blog is based on references in the Bible to fear. God wills that we “BE NOT AFRAID”. Many theologians state that the eighth deadly sin is fear. It is fear and its natural animal reaction to fight or flight that is the root cause of our failings to create a Kingdom of God on earth. By “the power of the Holy Spirit” we can be witnesses and “communicators” of a new and redeemed humanity “even to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:7 8). This blog is dedicated to Mary the Mother of God.

DAY 8 - MOTHER INVIOLATE, PRAY THAT WE RECEIVE THE VIRTUE OF TEMPERANCE!
GOD'S WORD
"Do you not know that, of those who run in a race, all of them, certainly, are runners, but only one achieves the prize? Similarly, you must run, so that you may achieve. And one who competes in a contest abstains from all things. And they do this, of course, so that they may achieve a corruptible crown. But we do this, so that we may achieve what is incorruptible." (1 Cor 9:24-25)
HEROES' WORDS
"Temperance is a disposition that restrains our desires for things which it is base to desire." -St. Augustine
"Our body has this defect that, the more it is provided care and comforts, the more needs and desires it finds." -St. Teresa of Avila
"If you would rise, shun luxury, for luxury lowers and degrades." -St John Chrysostom
MEDITATION
Temperance is the moral virtue that moderates the attraction of pleasures and provides balance in the use of created goods. It ensures the will's mastery over instincts and keeps desires within the limits of what is honorable. The temperate person directs the sensitive appetites toward what is good and maintains a healthy discretion: "Do not follow your inclination and strength, walking according to the desires of your heart." Temperance is often praised in the Old Testament: "Do not follow your base desires, but restrain your appetites." In the New Testament it is called "moderation" or "sobriety." We ought "to live sober, upright, and godly lives in this world." (CCC 1809)
"To live well is nothing other than to love God with all one's heart, with all one's soul and with all one's efforts; from this it comes about that love is kept whole and uncorrupted (through temperance). No misfortune can disturb it (and this is fortitude). It obeys only [God] (and this is justice), and is careful in discerning things, so as not to be surprised by deceit or trickery (and this is prudence)." -St. Augustine

Show thyself my Mother!

QUEENSHIP
OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY
Luke, Chapter 20, Verse 19
The scribes and chief priests
sought to lay their hands on him at that very hour, but they FEARED the people, for they knew that he
had addressed this parable to them.
Politics
never changes. Those in power find it very difficult to surrender. The powerful
leaders of Israel were offended because Christ told them the truth, “The stone
which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone.”
The
scribes had set a trap by asking whether it was right to pay taxes to Caesar.
They sought to label Him as a traitor to the Jews if he said yes and if He said no, they could accuse Him before the Romans. Their plan was perfect
yet, Jesus was able to see past the façade. Taxes were not the issue: Surrender
was the issue. Who or what are the values and assumptions about life do we
surrender too? Christ’s question, “Who’s image is on the coin.” He meant that
any object stamped with a person’s image belongs to the individual pictured.
This coin carried Caesar’s image, so they were to surrender that coin to
Caesar. Christ’s point was the Israel’s had been stamped with God’s image. They
therefore should surrender themselves to God.
As
Catholics we therefore must give our consciences to God. Catholic’s are called
to care and vote responsibly.
"We
need to participate for the common good. Sometimes we hear: a good Catholic is not
interested in politics. This is not true: good Catholics immerse themselves in
politics by offering the best of themselves so that the leader can
govern." - Pope Francis, 9/16/13
The
Catholic bishops of the United States offer to the Catholic faithful Forming Consciences for Faithful
Citizenship, their teaching document on the political
responsibility of Catholics.
On the 11th of October 1954, Pope Pius XII
established the Feast of the Queenship of Mary to be celebrated throughout the
world, and commanded that on that day each year, the world should renew its
consecration to her. In the future the Feast came to be celebrated on 22nd of
August. On the day of her Assumption, Mary our Mother was solemnly crowned by
Christ and received by the whole court of Heaven as Queen. What Christ has done
in Heaven and the Church has done on our behalf we should now do individually,
that is, we should recognize Mary's Queenship, enthrone her in our homes,
consecrate ourselves to her and, by this means, establish in our lives the
reign of Mary Immaculate Queen of the Universe.

Act of Consecration
O Mary Immaculate Queen, glorious Queen of the Universe, most powerful Virgin,
merciful Mother of a merciful God and refuge of sinners, we consecrate
ourselves to thy Royal and Immaculate Heart.
It is through thee that Jesus Christ our King has come into the world to save
it. It is also through thee that He is to reign over the world.
In order to obtain this great benefit for ourselves and all mankind, we come to
thy feet to consecrate to thee our persons, our lives, all that we are, all
that we have, all that we love. Keep us, enlighten us, dispose of us, reign
over us.
May all hearts and all homes willingly proclaim thee as their Immaculate Queen.
Prayer
O Mary Immaculate Queen, look down upon this distressed and suffering world.
Thou knowest our misery and our weakness. O Thou who art our Mother, saving us
in the hour of peril, have compassion on us in these days of great and heavy
trial.
Jesus has confided to thee the treasure of His Grace, and through Thee He wills
to grant us pardon and mercy. In these hours of anguish, therefore, thy
children come to Thee as their hope.
We recognize thy Queenship and ardently desire thy triumph. We need a Mother
and a Mother's Heart. Thou art for us the luminous dawn which dissipates our
darkness and points out the way to life. In thy clemency obtain for us the
courage and the confidence of which we have such need.
Most Holy and Adorable Trinity, Thou Who didst crown with glory in Heaven the
Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Savior, grant that all her children on earth
may acknowledge her as their Sovereign Queen, that all hearts, homes, and
nations may recognize her rights as Mother and as Queen. Amen.
MARY IMMACULATE QUEEN
Triumph and Reign!

Monday Night at the Movies Luis Bunuel, Simon of the Desert, 1965 SAINT MOTHER THEODORE GUERIN Hebrews, Chapter 12, Verse 21 Indeed, so FEARFUL was the spectacle that Moses said, “I am terrified and trembling.” Moses was the heir apparent to the throne of Egypt in his youth. As a member of the Egyptian court, he would have seen many fearful spectacles yet imagine what it must have been like to have been a witness of God descending on Mount Sinai to give the law. He was terrified and trembling. Again, now imagine if Moses was somehow resurrected and was able to walk into an ordinary catholic church that has a very modest Blessed Sacrament Chapel. Do you think his reaction would be any different than the first time he encountered the living God? AUGUST August --We may come to appreciate more deeply the various landforms (mountains, deserts, rock formations, valleys, and plains) during vacation time. They give us bearing, direction, and the geological history of our lives. This is the beginning of awareness of the "here" in our lives. The Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord shows us the "hereness" of the risen Lord, and the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary speaks of God's power to the blessed. While we can choose to extend the Savior's redeeming power to our wounded earth, we also can choose to withdraw from this awesome challenge. Overview of August [1] August is often considered the transitional month in our seasonal calendar. It is the time of the year we begin to wind-down from our summer travels and vacations and prepare for Autumn — back to school, fall festivals, harvest time, etc. The Church in her holy wisdom has provided a cycle of events in its liturgical year which

The older we get, the more we become aware that we have not measured up to what God had in mind for us from all eternity. We begin to worry about Judgment Day. Fear . Even when we are younger, if we have a good conscience, we worry over our sins. Remember that God loved us so much that he sent his Son to save us. Remember that Jesus gave his life for each of us personally. Remember that God is not like us: He loves us with an everlasting love. We need to realize this love of God so that it will cast out all fear from our hearts. We
