· How to celebrate Feb 24th
o Wake up and kick off your day by channeling your inner influencer with a trading card photoshoot. Gather your favorite trading cards, set up some creative shots, and capture your own unique collection in a fun and imaginative way. Get your artistic side flowing by arranging and displaying them in different patterns or designs.
o Next, dive into the kitchen and whip up a batch of homemade tortilla chips. It’s simple – just cut up some tortillas, season them to your liking, and bake them until crispy. They’re perfect for snacking on throughout the day or for serving with your favorite dips.
o As the afternoon rolls around, why not try your hand at mixing up some delicious cocktails? Check out some bartending tutorials online and experiment with crafting your own signature drink. Invite a friend over (or enjoy solo), and toast to your newfound mixology skills.
o In the evening, cozy up with a classic TV show or movie marathon. Celebrate all things mysterious by watching episodes of Twin Peaks or indulge in a film featuring doppelgängers and otherworldly elements. It’s the perfect way to unwind and embrace the weirdness of the day.
o Round off your festivities by preparing a meal sans coriander for International I Hate Coriander Day. Explore new recipes or adapt some of your favorites to exclude the divisive herb. Share your culinary creations on social media to join the anti-coriander movement.
o Finally, wind down your day by honoring Edward Dickinson Baker Day. Take a moment to read up on his life and accomplishments, or simply raise a glass in tribute to this historical figure. Reflect on the day’s eclectic celebrations and the joy found in embracing the unexpected.

HOLY FACE Day 2-Play More Cards-Lantern Festival
Daniel,
Chapter 5, Verse 19
Because he made him so great, the nations and peoples of every language dreaded and FEARED him. Whomever he willed, he would kill or let live; whomever he willed, he would exalt or humble.
The “He” we are talking about is King Nebuchadnezzar. Daniel here explains to Nebuchadnezzar’s grandson that "the Most High God" gave Nebuchadnezzar power and greatness, which allowed him to do whatever he wanted as king. But God proved to Nebuchadnezzar that only God was really in charge, by making him live in the wild with the animals for seven years and forcing Nebuchadnezzar to acknowledge God. Yet, says Daniel, Belshazzar, the last king of the Neo-Babylonian Empire, failed to learn the same lesson and become humble.
Only humble leaders can be secure in their own power.
The Law of Empowerment[1]
says that
Only secure leaders give power to
others: but what does it mean to be secure?
Using the
analogy of personal finance, let’s look at what’s missing from the lives of
insecure leaders. This will help us better understand where security comes from
and why it matters. Paupers, debtors, and hoarders lack the real or perceived
financial security necessary to give generously to others.
·
Leaders
without purpose are like paupers.
Paupers have no source of income aside from the financial assistance they
receive from someone else. Penniless and dependent, they’re clearly unable to
help others financially. They have no passion, low energy, and little drive to
grow in influence. Usually, their only source of power is the position they
have been given by somebody else.
o
In
terms of personal authority, they’re impoverished.
·
Leaders
without authenticity are like debtors. Debtors may have nice salaries, but
their expenses exceed their income. They’ve maxed out credit cards and taken
out hefty loans. Consequently, they’re stuck paying exorbitant interest rates
on the amounts they have borrowed. In an upside-down financial situation,
they’re in no position to give generously to others. Someone deeply in debt may
appear wealthy, even though they’re secretly on the verge of bankruptcy. The
closer you inspect their life, the more signs of dysfunction you see.
Similarly, inauthentic leaders may seem to have all the tools to lead with
excellence. However, they are missing the crucial component of moral authority.
o
They
do not practice the values they preach, and they prefer to keep others at arm’s
length to hide their shortcomings.
·
Leaders without humility resemble
hoarders. Hoarders
are sitting on a pile of wealth, but they think only of protecting it rather
than of sharing it with others. They have the plentiful resources but are
unwilling to part with them. Having put their talents to work, they enjoy a
significant amount of power. However, they’re worried about others taking it
from them or gaining more of it than they have.
o
So,
instead of using their influence to empower others, they keep it for their own
benefit.
As leaders, we can only lift others
up when we’re standing on a firm foundation.
Purpose, authenticity, and humility
give us a secure, stable base from which to lead.
Purpose is the answer to the
question: why do you want to lead?
The best
leaders have a purpose that is greater than they are. Their “why” involves more
than accumulating money or seeking self-actualization. They see leadership as a
calling rather than a career, relishing the opportunity to use their unique
talents to accomplish something significant that will outlive them.
Authenticity
means being comfortable in your own skin. Authentic leaders have
self-awareness, self-respect, self-confidence, and emotional maturity. They
prize integrity above image, and they seek to build trust with others on the
basis of their personal character.
Humility is often wrongly associated depreciating and downgrading ourselves. However, true humility flows out of gratitude and comes when we credit God for our blessings and others for our successes. As Rick Warren teaches, a humble leader doesn’t deny his strengths; he’s simply honest about his limitations. Humble leaders feel no need to trumpet their status, are unthreatened by criticism, and revel in the accomplishments of others. They put their pride aside so that others have room to shine.
Feast of Saint Matthias, Apostle
The
feast of Saint Matthias[2]
was included in the Roman Calendar in the 11th century and celebrated on
the sixth day to the Calends of March (24 February usually, but 25 February in
leap years). In the revision of the General Roman
Calendar in
1969, his feast was transferred to 14 May, so as not to celebrate it in Lent but instead in Eastertide close to the Solemnity of the
Ascension, the
event after which the Acts of the Apostles recounts that Matthias was selected
to be ranked with the Twelve Apostles.
OF[3]
this apostle nothing certain is known beyond what is contained in the epistle.
In the Introit of the Mass the Church sings: “To me Thy friends, O God, are
made exceedingly honorable; their principality is exceedingly strengthened.
Lord, Thou hast proved me and known me; Thou hast known my sitting down and my
rising up.”
Prayer. O God, Who didst associate blessed
Matthias to the company of the apostles, grant, we beseech Thee, that, by his
intercession, we may ever experience Thy tender mercy towards us.
Prayer
to St. Matthias.
O St. Matthias, glorious apostle and martyr of Jesus Christ, who, by the special providence of God, wast added to the eleven apostles in the room of the traitor, I humbly beseech thee to obtain for us the grace of Him Who chose thee from all eternity, that, assisted thereby, we may, after thy example, keep the commandments of God, practice good works, and thus merit to be numbered with the elect. Amen.

EPISTLE. Acts i. 15-26.
In those days Peter rising up in the midst of the brethren said (now the number of persons together was about an hundred and twenty) : Men, brethren, the Scripture must needs be fulfilled which the Holy Ghost spoke before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who was the leader of them that apprehended Jesus: who was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry. And he indeed hath possessed a field of the reward of iniquity, and being hanged burst asunder in the midst: and all his bowels gushed out. And it became known to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem: so that the same therein. field was called in their tongue, Haceldama, that is to say, The field of blood. For it is written in the book of Psalms: Let their habitation become desolate, and let there be none to dwell And his bishopric let another take. Wherefore of these men who have companied with us, all the time that the Lord Jesus came in and went out among us, beginning from the rection. baptism of John until the day wherein He was taken up from us, one of these must be made a witness with us of His resurrection. And they appointed two, Joseph, called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias. And praying, they said: Thou, Lord, Who knowest the hearts of all men, show whether of these two Thou hast chosen to take the place of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas hath by transgression fallen, that he might go to his own place. And they gave them lots, and the lot fell upon Matthias, and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.
GOSPEL. Matt. xi. 25-30.
At that time Jesus answered and said: I confess to Thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because Thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them to little ones. sight. Yea, Father: for so hath it seemed good in Thy All things are delivered to Me by My Father. And no one knoweth the Son, but the Father: neither doth anyone know the Father, but the Son, and he to whom it shall please the Son to reveal Him. Come to Me, all you that labor and are burdened, and I will refresh you. Take up My yoke upon you, and learn of Me, because I am meek, and humble of heart: and you shall find rest to your souls. For My yoke is sweet and My burden light. foolishness. The wise and prudent referred to in this gospel are the proud scribes and Pharisees, who, in their imaginary wisdom, would not receive the incarnate and suffering Son of God, but despised and rejected Him; in general, they represent also all who in their pride would measure everything by their own understanding, and to whom, consequently, the mysteries of faith seem The little ones are the apostles, who, although taken from a low condition of life, without a learned education, but rather ignorant, were enlightened by God to know the deepest mysteries, because they had docile and humble hearts, desirous of salvation. Thus God gives grace to the humble, while the proud go away empty. To those who bear His yoke, and follow Him, Christ promises peace of mind, temporal and eternal happiness; and, indeed, we must confess that as often as we are disquieted and discontented the cause of it is our selfishness and want of submission to the will of God, our pride and vanity. Learn, then, to love to be meek and humble, if you would enjoy peace, here or here after.
Prayer to St. Matthias.
O St. Matthias, glorious apostle and martyr of Jesus Christ, who, by the special providence of God, wast added to the eleven apostles in the room of the traitor, I humbly beseech thee to obtain for us the grace of Him Who chose thee from all eternity, that, assisted thereby, we may, after thy ex ample, keep the commandments of God, practice good works, and thus merit to be numbered with the elect. Amen
NOVENA TO THE HOLY FACE
Most Holy and Blessed
Trinity, through the intercession of Holy Mary, whose soul was pierced through
by a sword of sorrow at the sight of the passion of her Divine Son, we ask your
help in making a perfect Novena of reparation with Jesus, united with all His
sorrows, love and total abandonment.
We now implore all the Angels
and Saints to intercede for us as we pray this Holy Novena to the Most Holy
Face of Jesus and for the glory of the most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy
Spirit. Amen.

Psalm 51, 5-6a.
My offenses truly I know them; My sin is
always before me. Against you, you alone, have I sinned; what is evil in your
sight I have done.
Most Holy Face of Jesus, we
are truly sorry that we have hurt you so much by constantly doing what is
wrong; and for all the good works we have failed to do. Immaculate Heart of
Mary, Saint Joseph, intercede for us, help us to console the Most Holy Face of
Jesus. Pray that we may share in the tremendous love Thou hast for one another
and for the most Holy and Blessed Trinity. Amen.
Through the merits of your
precious blood and your Holy Face, O Jesus, grant us our petition, Pardon and
Mercy.
Prayer to the Holy Spirit
Come, Holy Spirit,
Sanctifier, all powerful God of love, Thou who didst fill the Virgin Mary with
grace, Thou who didst wonderfully transform the hearts of the apostles, Thou
who didst endow all Thy martyrs with a miraculous heroism, come and sanctify us,

(1) Glory Be.

PART THREE: LIFE IN CHRIST
SECTION ONE-MAN'S VOCATION LIFE IN THE
SPIRIT
CHAPTER TWO-THE HUMAN
COMMUNION
Article 3-SOCIAL JUSTICE
1928 Society ensures social justice when it provides the
conditions that allow associations or individuals to obtain what is their due,
according to their nature and their vocation. Social justice is linked to the
common good and the exercise of authority.
I. Respect for the Human
Person
1929 Social
justice can be obtained only in respecting the transcendent dignity of man. the
person represents the ultimate end of society, which is ordered to him:
What is at
stake is the dignity of the human person, whose defense and promotion have been
entrusted to us by the Creator, and to whom the men and women at every moment
of history are strictly and responsibly in debt.
1930 Respect
for the human person entails respect for the rights that flow from his dignity
as a creature. These rights are prior to society and must be recognized by it.
They are the basis of the moral legitimacy of every authority: by flouting
them, or refusing to recognize them in its positive legislation, a society
undermines its own moral legitimacy. If it does not respect them,
authority can rely only on force or violence to obtain obedience from its
subjects. It is the Church's role to remind men of good will of these rights
and to distinguish them from unwarranted or false claims.
1931 Respect
for the human person proceeds by way of respect for the principle that
"everyone should look upon his neighbor (without any exception) as
'another self,' above all bearing in mind his life and the means necessary for
living it with dignity." No legislation could by itself do away with
the fears, prejudices, and attitudes of pride and selfishness which obstruct
the establishment of truly fraternal societies. Such behavior will cease only
through the charity that finds in every man a "neighbor," a brother.
1932 The duty of making oneself
a neighbor to others and actively serving them becomes even more urgent when it
involves the disadvantaged, in whatever area this may be. "As you did it
to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me."
1933 This same duty extends to those who think or act differently from us. the teaching of Christ goes so far as to require the forgiveness of offenses. He extends the commandment of love, which is that of the New Law, to all enemies. Liberation in the spirit of the Gospel is incompatible with hatred of one's enemy as a person, but not with hatred of the evil that he does as an enemy.
II.
Equality and Differences Among Men
1934 Created
in the image of the one God and equally endowed with rational souls, all men
have the same nature and the same origin. Redeemed by the sacrifice of Christ,
all are called to participate in the same divine beatitude: all therefore enjoy
an equal dignity.
1935 The
equality of men rests essentially on their dignity as persons and the rights
that flow from it:
Every form
of social or cultural discrimination in fundamental personal rights on the
grounds of sex, race, color, social conditions, language, or religion must be
curbed and eradicated as incompatible with God's design.
1936 On coming
into the world, man is not equipped with everything he needs for developing his
bodily and spiritual life. He needs others. Differences appear tied to age,
physical abilities, intellectual or moral aptitudes, the benefits derived from
social commerce, and the distribution of wealth. The "talents"
are not distributed equally.
1937 These
differences belong to God's plan, who wills that each receive what he needs
from others, and that those endowed with particular "talents" share
the benefits with those who need them. These differences encourage and often
oblige persons to practice generosity, kindness, and sharing of goods; they
foster the mutual enrichment of cultures:
I distribute
the virtues quite diversely; I do not give all of them to each person, but some
to one, some to others.... I shall give principally charity to one; justice to
another; humility to this one, a living faith to that one.... and so I have
given many gifts and graces, both spiritual and temporal, with such diversity
that I have not given everything to one single person, so that you may be
constrained to practice charity towards one another.... I have willed that one
should need another and that all should be my ministers in distributing the
graces and gifts they have received from me.
1938 There
exist also sinful inequalities that affect millions of men and women. These are
in open contradiction of the Gospel:
Their equal
dignity as persons demands that we strive for fairer and more humane
conditions. Excessive economic and social disparity between individuals and
peoples of the one human race is a source of scandal and militates against
social justice, equity, human dignity, as well as social and international
peace.
Play More Cards Day[4]
Cards get a bad rap sometimes—and true, there are cards games that can be very addictive if not kept under control. But cards can also be the source of great entertainment for friends who just want to hang out and spend some time together, laughing and relaxing. In general, however, playing cards is fun, and as with most fun things that relax us, it’s typically a good idea to do more of them and let your brain take a break from the stress it’s used to for a change. This is where Play More Cards Day comes in. Play More Cards Day was created in 2013 by Bicycle Cards, the biggest producer of playing cards in the United States. The company began producing their cards in 1885, and they have since had sizable roles in various important historical events. For example, during World War II, the deck was designed as a puzzle, which when put together, became a map. This map was supposed to help potential prisoners make their way to safety once they escaped. Wars also prompted Bicycle Cards to create waterproof cards that would not peel, rip or fall apart after coming into contact with water or moisture. During the Vietnam War, the ace of spades printed on Bicycle Cards’ playing cards was thought to have severe psychological effects on the Viet Cong, which viewed it as a symbol of death and infinite bad luck for their activities. Initially, this rumor was false, but as time went by and American soldiers continued to use Bicycle Cards’ ace of spades as their symbol, it eventually did become a relevant part of Vietnam War psychological warfare symbolism.
How to Celebrate Play More Cards Day
The simplest, as well as the most fun way to celebrate this day,
is to, in fact, play more cards. Do you have a favorite card game? If not, find
out what you like best by trying out a few different card games. Some people
find playing a card game in which you have no partner or team especially fun
and challenging, while others prefer the company of another teammate to help
them out if they get in a fix, like the Polish cards game Hola. If you’re a
person who values peace and quiet above all other things, playing solitaire
with real cards as opposed to just clicking on them could prove entertaining.
Choose whichever card game you want to play on this day, the only requirement
is that you have a good time. Another great way to make sure a party (even a
small one) is a success is to have various foods to snack on. If you’re all to
be touching cards, it would probably be best of the snacks you choose were not
too greasy so as not to dirty the cards. With baked chips becoming all the more
popular compared to regular deep-fried chips, that could turn out to be a much
easier criterion to meet than it seems. And if all else fails, you and your
friends can simply take a break from the game to fill up on something tasty,
and them go right back to what you were doing.
Deck of Cards[5]
Song by Tex Ritter
Friends, this is Tex Ritter with a strange story about a soldier boy and a deck of cards. During a North African campaign, a bunch of soldier boys had been on a long hike, and they arrived in a little town called Casino."
The next morning being Sunday several of the boys went to church. A Sargent commanded the boys in church, and after the Chaplain had read the prayer the text was taken up next. Those of the boys who had a prayer book took them out, but this one boy only had a deck of cards, and so he spread them out. The Sergeant saw the cards and said, "Soldier, put away those cards." After the services were over the soldier was taken prisoner and brought before the Provost Marshall.
The Marshall said, "Sargent, why have you brought this man here?"
"For playing cards in church, sir."
"And what have you to say for yourself, son?"
"Much, sir." replied the soldier.
'The Marshall said, "I hope so, for if not, I shall punish you more than any man was ever punished."
The soldier said, "Sir, I have been on a march for about six days, and I had neither Bible nor Prayer Book, but I hope to satisfy you, Sir, with the purity of my intentions."
With that the boy started his story.
"You see, Sir, when I look at the Ace it reminds me that there is but one God. The deuce reminds me that the Bible is divided into two parts: The Old and New Testaments. And when I see the trey I think of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. When I see the four, I think of the four evangelist who preached the Gospel. There was Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. And when I see the five it reminds me of the five wise virgins who trimmed their lamps. Ten of 'em; five who were wise and were saved; five were foolish and were shut out. And when I see the six it reminds me that in six days God made this great heaven and earth. And when I see the seven it reminds me that on the seventh day God rested from His great work. When I see the eight, I think of the eight righteous persons God saved when he destroyed this earth. There was Noah, his wife, their three sons, and their wives. And when I see the nine, I think of the lepers our Savior cleansed, and nine of the ten didn't even thank Him. When I see the ten, I think of the Ten Commandments God handed down to Moses on a tablet of stone. When I see the King, it reminds me that there is but one King of Heaven, God Almighty. And when I see the queen, I think of the Blessed Virgin Mary who is Queen of Heaven. And the jacks, or knaves, it's the devil. And when I count the number of spots on a deck of cards, I find three hundred sixty-five the number of days in a year. Fifty-two cards, the number of weeks in a year. Four suits, the number of weeks in a month. Twelve picture cards, the number of months in a year. Thirteen tricks, the number of weeks in a quarter. So, you see, Sir, my pack of cards serve me as a Bible, almanac, and prayer book."
"Friends, I know this story is true, because I knew that soldier."
Chinese
Lantern Festival[6]
Also known as the Shang Yuan Festival or the Yuan Xiao Jie Festival, the Lantern Festival is a traditional Chinese holiday that falls during the first month of the lunar calendar, on the fifteenth day. The festival is a celebration of the end of the Chinese New Year celebrations and the start of the new year. It’s a time for families to come together and enjoy food, entertainment, and the lighting of lanterns. One of the fundamental traditions of the Lantern Festival is the display and appreciation of colorful lanterns as well as other activities such as fireworks displays, parades, and traditional dance and music performances. Many people also participate in cultural activities such as solving riddles written on lanterns or eating sweet dumplings, called yuanxiao.
History of Lantern
Festival
The origins of the Lantern Festival can be traced back to
the Han Dynasty (202 BC – 220 AD) in ancient China. According to legend, the
festival was originally a celebration of the deity Taiyi,
who was believed to be responsible for the creation of the universe. Over time,
the festival evolved to become a celebration of the new year and the end of the
winter season.
During the Tang Dynasty (618 – 907 AD), the Lantern
Festival became an important cultural event that was celebrated by people from
all walks of life as a time to pay respect to their ancestors and to pray for
good fortune in the new year.
In the modern era, the Lantern Festival is still an
important cultural event in China and is celebrated by millions of people
around the world. It is a time for celebration, reflection, and coming together
with loved ones, and is an integral part of Chinese culture and tradition.
How to Celebrate Lantern Festival
There are many ways in which people celebrate the Lantern
Festival. Some common traditions and activities include:
Displaying and
Appreciating Lanterns
People display lanterns of all shapes and sizes, often in
the form of parades or displays. The lanterns are made from a variety of
materials, including paper, silk, and metal, and come in a wide range of shapes
and sizes. Some lanterns are shaped like animals or objects, while others are
simple round or cylindrical shapes.
Lighting Lanterns
Many people also light lanterns as part of the festival
celebrations. These lanterns can be small handheld lanterns or larger lanterns
that are suspended in the air. In some cases, people release lanterns into the
sky as a symbol of letting go of the past and welcoming the future.
Solving Riddles
Some lanterns may have riddles written on them, and people
try to solve these riddles, which is seen as a fun and interactive way to
celebrate the holiday.
Eating Traditional Foods
The Lantern Festival is also a time for people to enjoy
traditional foods, such as yuanxiao, a type of sweet
dumpling made from glutinous rice flour. Other traditional foods that are often
eaten during the festival include tangyuan (sweet rice
balls) and other sweet treats.
Enjoying Performances
The Lantern Festival is often accompanied by performances
of traditional Chinese music and dance, as well as other forms of entertainment
such as acrobatics and theater.
Fireworks Displays
In some areas, fireworks displays are an important part of
the Lantern Festival celebrations. These displays are often elaborate and
spectacular, and are enjoyed by people of all ages.
