Monday Night at the Movies Luis Bunuel, Simon of the Desert, 1965 SAINT MOTHER THEODORE GUERIN   Hebrews, Chapter 12, Verse 21 Indeed, so FEARFUL was the spectacle that Moses said, “I am terrified and trembling.”   Moses was the heir apparent to the throne of Egypt in his youth. As a member of the Egyptian court, he would have seen many fearful spectacles yet imagine what it must have been like to have been a witness of God descending on Mount Sinai to give the law. He was terrified and trembling. Again, now imagine if Moses was somehow resurrected and was able to walk into an ordinary catholic church that has a very modest Blessed Sacrament Chapel. Do you think his reaction would be any different than the first time he encountered the living God?  Be Still and Know that I am God [1]   On the evening of October 1995, John Paul II was scheduled to greet the seminarians at Saint Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore.   Seventeenth Sunday after Pentecost HOLY GUARDIAN ANGELS   Hebrews, Chapter 11, Verse 27 By faith he (Moses) left Egypt, not FEARING the king’s fury, for he persevered as if seeing the one who is invisible.   Moses was a warrior who was led by faith to serve the one who is invisible. Although as the adopted son of pharaoh he could have had the power of Egypt, yet he chose to follow Him who is. Moses was a righteous man. A righteous man is one who leads a life that is pleasing to God. I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff comfort me. (Ps. 23:4) Faith helps a warrior to focus himself and conserve the warrior energy for where it is most effective. Ponder the fact that Christ at any moment could have chosen to fight and the results would have been the defeat of the Romans and the loss of man. The Warrior Ethos   The Soldier's Creed of the United States Army states: "I am disciplined, physically and mentally tough, trained a...

OCTOBER   TREES DECLARE THEIR OWN SERMON in brief autumn's painted landscape. We note their size and type and variety and beauty. Trees serve as symbols of the gift-giving aspects of our lives. Trees provide fruit, wood, climatic modification, wind and sun protection, prevention of soil erosion, and a host of other benefits. This is the time to plant trees and to prepare them for winter. Should we not give more attention to how our lives can bear fruit in Christ and in the protection of our forests?   Overview of October [1]   The month of October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary . The Memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary is celebrated on October 7. October falls during the liturgical season known as Ordinary Time , which is represented by the liturgical color green. During October, as in all of Ordinary Time (formerly known as Time After Pentecost ), the Liturgy does not focus on one particular mystery of Christ but views the mystery of Christ in all its as...
