DAY 34 - MARY, HEALTH OF THE SICK, PRAY FOR US
Join us for Rosary Coast to Coast!
In the Battle of Lepanto, the Turks believed Christianity had become so weak, it was time to move in and "deal the last blow." Outnumbered, Pope St. Pius V called upon the world to pray the rosary. Miraculously, victory was won on October 7, 1571, which brought the Feast of Our Lady of Victory.
Here we are again, my brothers and sisters. The enemy appears to be attempting to "deal the last blow." There is no doubt we are living in diabolically influenced times. This, while Godless leaders and influencers in our nation have usurped the phrase, “This is a battle for the soul of America,” as their evil abominations unto God easily become a “new normal” in the lives of our loved ones?! Those who choose to stand in the “Spirit of Truth” are mocked, persecuted, abandoned and put out?! The time is now to do the "Lepanto thing!"
PLEASE join us for Rosary Coast to Coast on the Feast of Our Lady of Victory, October 7, 2023 at 3:00pm CST to pray the Glorious Mysteries as a nation. It simply means to gather with a group of 2 or more outside (if possible) as we call upon the powerful intercession of Our Lady to Heal Our Land!!

Let’s … UNITE AT THE FOOT OF THE CROSS!!
THIS DAY WE FIGHT
Spiritually speaking, the devil is doing all that he can to catch us isolated and unarmed on the battlefield — no spiritual armor, no spiritual weapons, and no comrades in the heavenly realm to fight alongside of us. In other words, the reason evil is promoted so effectively today is because we’re ignoring God’s offer of supernatural strength and power and ignoring the mightiest of all allied forces: the Communion of Saints.
C.S. Lewis wrote, “Enemy-occupied territory — that is what this world is. Christianity is the story of how the rightful king has landed, you might say landed in disguise, and is calling us all to take part in a great campaign of sabotage.” The Catechism of the Catholic Church reminds us: “This dramatic situation of ‘the whole world, which is in the power of the evil one,’ (1 Jn 5:19; cf. 1 Pt 5:8) makes man’s life a battle: ‘the whole of man’s history has been the story of dour combat with the powers of evil, stretching, so our Lord tells us, from the very dawn of history until the last day. Finding himself in the midst of the battlefield, man has to struggle to do what is right, and it is at great cost to himself, and aided by God’s grace, that he succeeds in achieving his own inner integrity’ (Gaudium et Spes, 37:2)” (CCC 409).
Are you ready to do battle? In the movie, Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, Aragorn calls his men to throw down the gauntlet against the forces of evil. Let this call be ours:
“My brothers! I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me! A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship. But it is not this day. An hour of wolves and shattered shields when the age of Men comes crashing down! But it is not this day! This day we fight!” (Excerpt from my book, Church Militant Field Manual).

Sixteenth
Sunday after Pentecost
ST. HILDEGARDE-CONSTITUTION DAY-OKTOBER
FEAST
It
is natural to fear something you cannot control. Christ could not be controlled
by the men in charge of the Temple system; so they feared Him and they feared
the crowd that followed Him. Christ’s message was good news to the crowd who
were but pawns in the Jewish Temple system of wealth and power. We in times of
trouble should be like Tobit and seek to walk all the days of our lives in
paths of truth and righteousness. It was Tobit who defied those in power to do
an act of mercy by burying the dead. While his neighbors mocked him and said to
one another: He is still not afraid! Once before he was hunted down for
execution because of this very thing; yet now that he has scarcely escaped,
here he is again burying the dead!” (Tobit 2:8) Love makes sacrifices. He
(Christ) laid down His life for us. We should also lay down our lives for our
brothers. (1 John 3:16)
Tobit[1]
- On the first
night out, Tobias and Raphael/Azariah camped by the Tigris River.
- When Tobias
went to bathe, a fish jumped out of the water and tried to swallow his
foot. Scholars see much symbolism in this event. Typically,
water represents chaos; then it’s an attempt to disrupt their trip.
“Feet” sometimes has sexual connotations; then it’s an attack on his
manhood.
- Azariah told
him to grab the fish.
- He hauled it
out on the shore, and Azariah told him to cut out the heart, liver, and
gall bladder. What he couldn’t eat, he salted and took with
them. Since he ate it, it could not have been an unclean fish. (Now,
as an angel, Azariah never ate anything, which he will point out later in
the story. Tobias, however, didn’t catch on to any of this.)
- Along the way,
the angel told Tobias what to do with those fish parts.
Most
of us by the grace of God are never confronted with such terrors as Tobit. Yet,
we too in our quiet lives can lay down ourselves in service to our brothers.
John
McCain in his book Character is Destiny[2] highlights
the life of John Wooden who in his own quiet way as a Basketball coach made a
huge difference in countless lives of young men growing up teaching them the
power of COOPERATION. Coach Wooden was a modest man who inspired young men
under his tutelage, leading by example; teaching them wisdom and decency to
become both winners and good men.
McCain
states Wooden:
Coach
Wooden[3]
taught that success is, “peace of mind
that is the direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you did your best to
become the best that you are capable of becoming.” Coach Wooden developed a
Pyramid of Success which he taught his players which not only helped them win
at the game of basketball but also in the game of life.
ON KEEPING THE LORD'S DAY HOLY[4]
My esteemed Brothers in the
Episcopate
and the Priesthood,
Dear Brothers and Sisters!
Introduction
3. The fundamental importance of Sunday has been recognized through two thousand years of history and was emphatically restated by the Second Vatican Council: "Every seven days, the Church celebrates the Easter mystery. This is a tradition going back to the Apostles, taking its origin from the actual day of Christ's Resurrection — a day thus appropriately designated 'the Lord's Day'." Paul VI emphasized this importance once more when he approved the new General Roman Calendar and the Universal Norms which regulate the ordering of the Liturgical Year. The coming of the Third Millennium, which calls believers to reflect upon the course of history in the light of Christ, also invites them to rediscover with new intensity the meaning of Sunday: its "mystery", its celebration, its significance for Christian and human life.
I note with pleasure that in the years since the Council this important theme has prompted not only many interventions by you, dear Brother Bishops, as teachers of the faith, but also different pastoral strategies which — with the support of your clergy — you have developed either individually or jointly. On the threshold of the Great Jubilee of the Year 2000, it has been my wish to offer you this Apostolic Letter in order to support your pastoral efforts in this vital area. But at the same time I wish to turn to all of you, Christ's faithful, as though I were spiritually present in all the communities in which you gather with your Pastors each Sunday to celebrate the Eucharist and "the Lord's Day". Many of the insights and intuitions which prompt this Apostolic Letter have grown from my episcopal service in Krakow and, since the time when I assumed the ministry of Bishop of Rome and Successor of Peter, in the visits to the Roman parishes which I have made regularly on the Sundays of the different seasons of the Liturgical Year. I see this Letter as continuing the lively exchange which I am always happy to have with the faithful, as I reflect with you on the meaning of Sunday and underline the reasons for living Sunday as truly "the Lord's Day", also in the changing circumstances of our own times.
Sixteenth Sunday after Pentecost-Do good works with humility
Today is Catechetical Sunday.
IN the Introit of the Mass let us implore, with great confidence, the mercy of God. “Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I have cried to Thee all day; for Thou, O Lord, art sweet, and mild, and plenteous in mercy, to all that call upon Thee. Bow down Thy ear to me, O Lord, and hear me, for I am needy and poor”. (Ps. Ixxxv.).
Prayer. May Thy grace, O Lord, ever precede and follow us, and make us ever intent upon good works.
EPISTLE. Eph. iii. 13-21.
Brethren: I pray you not to faint at my tribulations for you: which is your glory. For this cause I bow my knees to the Father of Our Lord Jesus Christ, of Whom all paternity in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened by His Spirit with might unto the inward man, that Christ may dwell by faith in your hearts: that being rooted and founded in charity, you may be able to comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth, and length, and height, and depth: to know also the charity of Christ, which surpasseth all knowledge, that you may be filled unto all the fulness of God. Now to Him Who is able to do all things more abundantly than we desire or understand, according to the power that worketh in us: to Him be glory in the Church, and in Christ Jesus, unto all generations, world without end. Amen.
Explanation. St. Paul was in prison at Rome when he wrote this epistle and was anxious lest the Ephesians might think that the faith, the proclaimers of which were thus persecuted, was not from God. He therefore exhorts them to remain firm in their belief; assures them that his sufferings would be for their glory if they remained as firm as he: and prays that they may be enlightened to know the love of God that is, what Christ had done and suffered for us. Hence, we learn to ask earnestly of God grace to understand the mysteries of faith.
Aspiration. O heavenly Father, according to the example of St. Paul, I humbly pray that Thy spirit, Thy knowledge, Thy charity, may be deeply implanted in us, that Thou mayest possess our hearts, and that we, filled with all the fulness of Thy grace, may serve Thee more perfectly, and give Thee thanks forever.
GOSPEL. Luke xiv. 1-11.
At that time, when Jesus went into the house of one of the chiefs of the Pharisees, on the Sabbath-day, to eat bread, they watched Him. And behold there was a certain man before Him that had the dropsy. And Jesus answering, spoke to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying: Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath-day? But they held their peace. But He, taking him, healed him, and sent him away. And answering them, He said: Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fall into a pit, and will not immediately draw him out on the Sabbath day? And they could not answer Him to these things. And He spoke a parable also to them that were invited, marking how they chose the first seats at the table, saying to them: When thou art invited to a wedding, sit not down in the first place, lest perhaps one more honorable than thou be invited by him, and he that inviteth thee and him, come and say to thee: Give this man place: and then thou begin with shame to take the lowest place: but when thou art invited, go sit down in the lowest place: that when he who invited thee cometh, he may say to thee: Friend, go up higher. Then shalt thou have glory before them that sit at the table with thee. Because everyone that exalteth himself shall be humbled: and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
Why did the Pharisees watch Jesus so closely?
To discover something in Him for which they might censure and accuse Him. How like them are those Christians who watch every step of their neighbors, and particularly of priests, hoping to find something for which to blame them, and represent them as evil persons!
Who is, spiritually, like the man with the dropsy?
The avaricious man: for as a dropsical person is never satisfied with drinking, so the avaricious man never has enough; and like the dropsy, too, avarice is hard to cure, since it grows worse with age, and generally does not leave a man till he comes to the grave.
Why is avarice reckoned among the seven deadly sins?
Because it is the root of many evils; for it leads to usury, theft, the use of false weights and measures, to the retaining of unjustly gotten goods, to the oppression of the poor, of widows and orphans, to the denial and suppression of justice, to apostasy from the faith, and to despair. Hence the Apostle says, “They that will become rich fall into temptation and into the snare of the devil, and into many unprofitable and hurtful desires, which drown men into destruction and perdition” (i.Tim. vi. 9). An efficacious remedy for avarice is the consideration that we are only the stewards, and not the owners of our goods, of which we can take nothing with us at the hour of our death (i. Tim. vi. 7); and that one-day God will require of us a strict account of what we have had.
Commentary
"'For everyone who exalts himself shall be humbled, and he who humbles himself shall be exalted".
Jesus reveals
His Love by curing the victim of dropsy. Love overcomes all human obstacles.
The humble man does not, of course, expose his talents to the contempt of
others. But he does recognize that every best gift is from above, loaned not
for himself alone, but for his less favored neighbor as well. For this reason,
I bend my knees to the Father, exclaims St. Paul, as he reflects on His
glorious riches: how Divine love PURGES us by strength through His Spirit,
ILLUMINATES us through our faith and then UNITES us in Christ's love. . .unto.
. .the fullness of God. Humbly must we recognize the power that is at work in
us.
St. Hildegarde[5]
Called the "Sibyl of the Rhine," Hildegard of Bingen became the most famous mystic and prophet of her time. Her writings and music are still found in all major bookstores, and no woman saint is more popular in her native Germany. When she was eight, she was placed in a convent, where she later became abbess. She was a biblical exegete, visionary, preacher, composer, and herbalist, who corresponded with the major royalty and church leaders of her day, including four popes.
Her greatest vision came when she was forty-two,
which is recorded in her famous Scrivias, or Know the Ways of the Lord,
a treatise whose magnificence rivals William Blake's visionary work.
Hildegard's spiritual writings found approval during her lifetime, and her
lectures on the spiritual life drew crowds from all over Europe. She wrote
prolifically, on topics as varied as history and drama, politics and liturgical
poetry. Her monastery joyfully sang the praises she wrote. During the last year
of her life, when she was eighty-one, she entered into a conflict with
ecclesiastical authorities because she allowed a young man who had been
excommunicated to be buried in her abbey cemetery, and her convent was placed
under interdict. It is probably that, for this reason, Hildegard was never formally
canonized, although she is found in all major saints' books and her cult was
approved locally because of so many miracles reported at her tomb.

Constitution Day[6]
Constitution Day commemorates the adoption of the United States Constitution and celebrates the citizens of the United States. The Constitution was written because the existing charter of government, known as the Articles of Confederation, had resulted in creating a weak and ineffective central government. The Constitution defines the supreme law of the United States, with each article of the constitution pertaining to aspects such as the congress, president, judicial system, interrelationship between the state and federal government and process of amendments to the Constitution. James Madison, Oliver Ellsworth, Nathaniel Gorham, Alexander Hamilton, William Johnson, Rufus King, Gouverneur Morris, Benjamin Franklin and George Washington wrote the Constitution. Constitution Day originally began in 1939 with the suggestion of a holiday to celebrate American Citizenship. President Harry Truman then declared that the third Sunday of May become I am American Day. A decade later, 1953, President Dwight Eisenhower changed the date to coincide with the signing of the Constitution and renamed it Citizenship Day. Constitution or Citizenship Day is observed annually on September 17th, the same day as the US Constitution was signed in 1787.

Oktoberfest[8]
STARTED YESTERDAY
Remember no carousing or
drunkenness!!!
Oktoberfest is a 16-day
folk festival celebrated in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. It is also the
world’s largest Volksfest, which are German events that combine beer festivals with traveling funfairs.
Oktoberfest first emerged on October 12, 1910 when King Ludwig I married
Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen. Citizens of Munich celebrated the
marriage in fields leading to the city gates. These fields were named
‘Theresienwiese’ in honor of the Princess. The wedding celebrations ended
on October 17th with horse races and until 1960, horse races were held
annually. Eventually, carnivals, amusement rides, food booths, beer tents and
parades were all added to the celebrations. Today, Oktoberfest is still held
annually at the Theresienwiese fairgrounds in Munich although there are no
longer any horse races. Oktoberfest celebrations have also spread
globally, becoming synonymous with beer and German culture. This festival
usually starts on the third weekend of September and ends on the first weekend
of October.
Oktoberfest Facts
·
According to tradition, beer tents at the
Oktoberfest can only sell beer that has been brewed in Munich. The beer
has to adhere to the Bavarian Purity Requirements called Reinheitsgebot.
The six breweries allowed at the Oktoberfest include:
1) Augustiner
2) Hacker Pschorr
3) Hofbräu
4) Löwenbräu
5) Paulaner
6) Spaten
·
Since Oktoberfest is still held on the
Theresienweise, locals refer to Oktoberfest as Wies'n.
·
Beer served at the Oktoberfest is poured in mugs
called Maß. A Maß is made of clear glass, so that the consumer can see
whether the Maß is full or not. Maß also contains a calibration mark to
which beer must be filled and the calibration mark has to amount to 1-liter.
If a Maß is not completely filled, or the calibration mark falls below
the true 1 liter position, or if there is no calibration mark, then the seller
can be prosecuted for committing fraud. Verein gegen betrügerisches
Einschenken is a Munich-based organization that monitors whether glasses
are being completely filled or not.
·
Traditional German clothing for Oktoberfest
includes a Sennerhut. Sennerhut is a woollen hat that may have symbols of
a person’s hometown, or is embroidered with bright flowers. For a measure
of good luck, some people add goat hair on the hat. Men traditionally
wear Lederhosen, which are leather breeches, while women wear Dirndl. A
dirndl is a dress that consists of a bodice, blouse, skirt and apron.
·
In 2015, 5,900,000 visitors attended Oktoberfest
in Munich, Germany. Approximately 7.3 million liters of beer was consumed
and the average 1-litre mug of beer cost approximately 10.22 euros ($12).

Article 1-THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM
1213 Holy Baptism is the basis of
the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit (vitae spiritualis

Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of
Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission:
"Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word."
