DAY 52 - OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE, PRAY FOR US POWER OF PRAYER The heroes of our faith are the warrior saints who have gone before us. God worked mightily and miraculously through them. Therefore, we must study their ways. In humility, obedience, and trust (H.O.T.), we ask: How did they remain so well connected, in such strong friendship with God, so that his river of supernatural grace could flow so freely through them? What do these "SEALS for Christ" teach us about the ideal spiritual disciplines, the ultimate daily regimen of prayer? Christ established these final graces to cleanse the remnants of sin and shorten the fire that follows. But their power requires a soul still capable of receiving them. When a man delays until his mind is dim and his will weakened, the dispositions needed for grace fade. Some delay so long that the priest arrives too late, a...

Winnie the Pooh Day (An Iceman Story) Every family has its own canon of stories, but ours carries the Iceman—the man whose adventures freeze into memory and thaw only when retold on long roads, around camp tables, and in the quiet places where humor and grace meet. On October 14, Winnie the Pooh Day, one such tale rises again. We were traveling to Philmont Scout Center — Vinny, Rachel, Dara, Nicole, and the rest of us — driving deep into the New Mexico backcountry for a week of training and adventure. The trip began in Kingman, where we stopped at McDonald’s. The kids grabbed a bright yellow Winnie the Pooh CD from the counter rack. We tossed it into the stereo and headed east, unaware that this innocent purchase was about to become legend. Hours passed. Civilization thinned. The desert widened. And somewhere beyond the last reliable restroom, you felt the first tremor — the tightening, the warning, the unmistakable command. You announced it with the urgency of a man facing judgment: ...
